Columbus, MN – Cash Money Twenty rallied from the back of the pack on Tuesday night (Sept. 1) at Running Aces to collect his ninth win of the season with a 1:51 mile in the $17,000 Open Handicap pace.
Dean Magee was in the bike aboard the very sharp 4-year-old son of Stevensville and they floated away in seventh position early to let Handsome Sir (driven by Brian Detgen) and Alta Revelry N (Luke Plano) battle it out for the top while Nick Roland and It’s Pointless also left fast to track the early leaders from third during the opening fractions of :26.4 and :55.2.
Alta Revelry N held court all the way into the lane while It’s Pointless tried a tiring first-over attack and both Cash Money Twenty and Dandy’s Freedom (Casey Leonard) got rolling from the back of the pack.
The field was stacking up as they straightened for the drive and Alta Revelry N still had a short lead but Cash Money Twenty was now storming down the center of the track and Dandy’s Freedom was also flying home on the far outside.
Cash Money Twenty surged to the wire to grab the victory by three-quarters of a length while Dandy’s Freedom was a neck better than Alta Revelry N after a place photo.
Players collected $3.20 for the win tickets while Cash Money Twenty rang his seasonal bankroll up to $100,050 for owner Heart & Soul Racing and trainer Brett Ballinger.
Heavy favorites Slipped Onmybeans (Dean Magee, $2.10) and Captain Ricky (Leonard, $2.40) both delivered the goods as the division leaders in the $15,000 top freshman pacing divisions to continue their respective status at the top. Both are by Captainryanmichael.
Fossil Fuel (by Big Oil) made it two in a row with a 2:01.3 score in the $17,500 freshman male trot with trainer/driver Brady Jenson in tow, paying $3.20, and JR’s Starburst (by World At War Deo) posted her first career victory in 2:01.1 in the $17,500 filly trot and returned $4.20 while in rein to Leonard.
The other freshman winners on the program included Heroic Honor (Nick Roland, $7.40) in 1:54.4 in the male ‘B’ pace, Art’s Finale (Rick Magee, $11.80) in 1:57.1 the male ‘C’ pace, and Icing On The Cake (Roland, $20.60) with a 1:58.2 mile in the filly ‘B’ pace.
Drivers Dean Magee, Casey Leonard and Nick Roland all had doubles on the card.
