EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – March 3, 2006 – Hez Striking [$6.20, $3.60, $3.00] angled out three-wide in the stretch and drew off to a two and a quarter length victory in the third race, a $32,500 winners-over trot, on Friday night at the Meadowlands.
It was the season’s debut for Hez Striking, driven by Ron Pierce and trained by Richard “Nifty” Norman. The mile was trotted in 1:55.2.
HZ Easy [$3.60, $3.40], who cut the fractions, held on for second. It was three and three-quarter lengths back to Nahcotta Jude [$4.40] in third.
Norman is pointing the trotter toward the Su Mac Lad Series at the Meadowlands, which begins on March 26 and concludes with a $126,500 final on April 9.
The seven-year-old Hez Striking last reached the winner’s circle in 2004. He now has career earnings in excess of $686,000 for owners J. Bart Glass of Stanford, Kentucky, and Robert A. Kauffman of New Albany, Ohio.
