A smashing seasonal debut for Maryland trotting star

Fort Washington, MD – When great athletes or entertainers hit the field, track, stage, or the movie screen, there is a great anticipation for what you are about to see.

The trotting ranks in Maryland have produced some great races at the start of 2023, and Tuesday night (Feb. 21) that $14,000 Open field grew by one more with the seasonal debut of former Maryland Sires Stakes Champion Yall Beneath Me.

Crossfit Mouse (Corey Braden) took the lead right after the opening quarter, with stablemate Creekside Pete (Frank Milby) second and Judge Bob (Jonathan Roberts) third. This trio has been slugging it out each week so far, with all winning an Open Trot so far.

Hatikvah (Chris Scicluna) went on a first-over attack, meanwhile the eventual winner was sitting third over at the three-quarter mark in 1:25.2 and used that outer flow cover to unleash a breathtaking three-wide burst off the banked turn and scorched a :27.4 final quarter. Russell Foster piloted the winner for Owner-Trainer Richard Hans. The Son of Googoo Gaagaa won for the 21st time in 34 lifetime starts and stopped the timer in 1:54.

Arts And Flowers rallied from seventh for Driver Rogers Plante Jr and pulled a 13-1 stunner in the $15,000 Open for Mares. It was one of two wins on the night for Plante, who owns and trains the 10-year old Artistic Fella mare.

Jonathan Ahle won three races on the Tuesday night card, and the Freehold regular continues to drive well as he trails only defending dash champion Jonathan Roberts in the standings. Adrian Wisher Jr. and David S. Rearic took divisions of the Mid-Atlantic Amateur Drivers Club Tuesday night.
