Monticello, NY — The 2024 Monticello Raceway Horse of the Year Air Guitar returned to his favorite track after not racing for three weeks and triumphed over Trevor’s Ace in a 2-1/4 length score in 1:58.1 ($3.50) with Greg Merton in the bike for trainer Mark Ford.
It was Air Guitar’s third seasonal win.
Leading trainer Laura Aldrich added one in the win column with Beach Party in 1:58.3 ($3.80) for his fourth win on the year. Beach Party is now tied with six others horses for the most wins thus far at Monticello Raceway.
Leading driver Mike Merton padded his lead in the standings with a win aboard Vinovio in 2:00.3 ($4.00) for fourth place leading trainer Ken Koch. Merton has 16 more wins than his closest competitor, Bruce Aldrich Jr.
Greg Merton and McGwire Sowers each notched a pair of driving wins on the nine-race card.
On Monday (March 24), Monticello Raceway held a somber moment of silence for Hunter Myers in the winner’s circle prior to the card’s first race. Our thoughts are with his fiancee, Chloe, and their son, Hayden.
