Malmo, Sweden – Allegiant, driven by Örjan Kihlström, went off as the heavy favorite in the Åbergs Memorial at Jägersro Racetrack in Sweden and scored a commanding victory in 1:49.2f — a new track and race record.
The Åbergs Memorial, which carries a purse for the winner of SEK 1,609,000 — $165,000 — was, to some extent, a replay of the Elitloppet final, as Daniel Redén-trained Allegiant once again took the lead, opened up several lengths on the field, and managed to keep the pace going all the way past the wire.
At Jägersro, Kihlström was not driving for a world record, as he had at Solvalla, and Allegiant — who, of course, felt the effects of the top pace along the way — likely still had something left in reserve when she crossed the finish line a safe seven lengths ahead of Norway’s Daim Brodda and Sweden’s Mellby Jinx.
It was her second start and second win since her win in Elitloppet on May 31.
