Nichols, NY — Archon (Dan Daley) captured a $112,100 leg of the New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) for freshmen colt and gelding trotters Sunday (Aug. 16) at Tioga Downs.
Archon ($13.20) made the lead early from post three and set the tempo with a 28-second first panel. Hypersonic (Ake Svanstedt) took command with a lap to go and was first to the half in :57.1. Archon moved first-up down the backstretch and reclaimed the lead and led to three quarters, setting a fraction of 1:26.
As they reached the stretch, second place finisher Uncle Rob (Andy Miller) went all out after the lead, but Archon was too strong and captured his first career victory in 1:54.4. Bigtime Chapter (Mattias Melander) finished third.
Archon is a 2-year-old colt by Chapter Seven-Queen Paige. He is trained by Daley for owners James Crawford IV, Timothy Drag, and Rich Preziotti.
Braxten Boyd and Mitchell Cushing collected driving hat tricks, while Leon Bailey turned in a driving double. Michelle Warner and Cam Capone each had training doubles.
