Columbus, OH — Respected veteran Thoroughbred trainer George “Rusty” Arnold II is the latest horseman to be ensnared in the Horseracing Integrity & Welfare Unit’s (HIWU) draconian approach to addressing obvious contamination positives. Arnold has accepted his penalty but has steadfastly maintained his innocence.

The attached open letter from Arnold to his horsemen brethren lays bare HIWU’s shortcomings and inflexible approach and warns other trainers that what happened to him could easily happen to any of them.

Standardbred horsemen should read Arnold’s letter and understand its implications. Should the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act (HISA) survives its various court challenges, then HIWU will come to harness racing.
