Arthur “Arty” Lee Foster, 93, dies

Columbus, OH – Arthur (Arty) Lee Foster died peacefully at his Cordova, MD, home on Saturday, December 31, 2022, surrounded by family. He was 93.

Born to the late Earle Thomas Foster and the late Ruth Elizabeth (Faulkner) Foster on September 23, 1929, in Easton, he graduated from Easton High School on June 1, 1946.

During his childhood and throughout his life, Arty was a farmer and along with his passion for the land, he also loved animals. He trained many dogs for hunting and racing during his early years, and then that passion for racing brought him to the standardbred horse racing industry in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Arty trained and raced many trotters and pacers for over 40 years in MD, DE, NJ, PA, and NY.

Employed by Elliott Wilson Trucking as a truck driver, Arty made many trips from New York to Florida; worked at the processing plant in Cordova; and worked his own farms. With the help and support of his loving wife, Ann, the couple worked together, side by side, milking cows, raising livestock, and growing grain crops for many years. Together, they raised a family that was taught the love of the land and the value of hard work.

Arty is survived by five children, Joanne Gowe of Cordova, Terri Phillips (Mike) of Preston, Arty Foster, Jr., (Anne) of Harrington, Wanda Saulsbury (Randy) of Cordova, Eric Foster (Courtney) of Ridgely; a son-in-law, Francis Scott; a brother, Donald D. Foster (Ellen Marie); a sister, Faye Hughes; seventeen grandchildren, April Gowe, Cheri Tindall, Austin Gowe, Mike Phillips, Jr., Dave Phillips, Arty Lee Foster, Russell Foster, Christina Roe, Katie Foster, Jennifer Saulsbury, Lee Foster, Crystal Saulsbury, Erin Foster, Emmy Foster, Erica Foster, Lynlee Foster, and Lane Foster; nineteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ann, and one child, Dianne Scott.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the Easton Church of God in Easton, MD, with a visitation prior from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Easton.
