Arthur Stafford, 79, dies

Columbus, OH — Arthur Clarence Stafford, 79, died peacefully at home on May 18, 2024.

He was born on May 4, 1945, in Glendale, N.J., to the late Randall B. Jr. and Florence (Warrington).

Mr. Stafford graduated from Haddonfield High School in 1964, after which he went on to marry his high school sweetheart, Karen Heiges. They raised their family in Voorhees, N.J., where he had a stable of Standardbreds. He was an owner, trainer, and driver.

Throughout his life he was a member of the USTA and numerous owners associations at local harness racetracks.

Mr. Stafford and his wife followed the horses and their sons to Delaware in 1999. There he continued with the horses but eventually slowed down and enjoyed watching his sons take over the racing.

The slower pace in Delaware suited him and he looked forward to cutting hay every year and raising beef cattle on his farm. He also looked forward to every hunting season, being with family and lifelong friends, reminiscing over old hunting stories. But most of all, he loved his family and spending time with them. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met and will be missed by many.

Mr. Stafford is survived by his wife of 59 years, Karen; children, Arthur Jr. (Stacy) and their two sons, Austin and Ashton, Andrew (Shannon) and their son, Ethan, and Sandra (Josh) Tallant and their two children, Gavin and Cassidy; grandson, Randall; brothers, Edmund, Randall III, Alvin and Benjamin; godson, Charles Peacock Jr; and several close nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Randall; and his brother, David.

A memorial service will take place on Friday (May 24) at 11 a.m. at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, DE 19934. The family will receive friends one hour prior.
