Edgerton, OH — The Attica Fair in Attica, Ohio, fought off rains for two days (Wednesday, Aug. 10 and Thursday, Aug. 11) to complete its racing program. They actually lost out to the rains on the last two races on Thursday. Those races, both overnights, had to be cancelled.
The fastest pacing race for the meet was turned in by Stride Of Pride (Manhardt-Apple B) in the 3-year-old colt pace. The gelding toured the Attica oval in 2:00.2 for driver Greg Bateson. Brian Boring is both the owner and trainer of Stride Of Pride.
Luann’s Chip (Neely Dunn-Lu’s Chip) came home first in the 3-year-old filly trot after a mile in 2:04.2 to post the fastest trot of the week. Bill Webb and Mark Headworth co-own the filly with Webb doing the training and Headworth performing the driving duties.
Pierce Henry and Duke Sugg each had three winning drives to share honors in that category. Ty Bates and Kent Hess shared the training accolades with two wins each.
A big congratulations to Bill Ruffing and Greg Swartzmiller for putting on a fine show. Also, a big thanks to Pam Weller for capably handling all of the race office duties.
Hunter Holton was on hand on Wednesday to man the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association’s “Racing with the Stars” exhibit. He concluded his duties for the day by conducting stick-horse races for several kids.
Action in the Ohio Fair Racing Conference will continue with racing at the Muskingum County Fair in Zanesville on Sunday (Aug. 14) and Monday (Aug. 15). Post time each day will be 1 p.m. That will be closely followed by a double session at the Henry County Fair in Napoleon on Tuesday (Aug. 16).
