Geocentric preserves perfect record at Red Mile

Martha Nichols Brown, 85, dies
Martha Nichols Brown of Hillsboro Beach, FL, who owned and operated Dunroven Stud in Lexington, KY, died Sunday, (Aug. 13), of complications of a stroke. She was 85.
Freehold Raceway to open live racing on August 25
Freehold Raceway resumes live racing on Friday (Aug. 25) with a post time of 12:30 p.m. Live racing will be conducted every Friday and Saturday (with the exception of five Thursday cards, Sept. 14 thru Oct. 12). Simulcast wagering is open 7 days a week. The first qualifier will be held on Friday (Aug. 18) at 10:00 a.m. Declare in by Wednesday (Aug. 16) by 10:00 a.m.
Maine trotters showcase at Skowhegan
A quartet of $14,000-plus divisions of the Maine Sire Stakes for trotters opened the 205th year of the Skowhegan State Fair, with several of the divisional leaders cushioning their point totals at the historic venue. Claiming the title of the Nation’s Oldest Consecutively running Agricultural Fair, Skowhegan has been operating annually since 1818.
