After losing two days of racing due to a prolonged “backstretch” power outage, Harrah’s Philadelphia was back with a vengeance on Friday afternoon (July 7), with horses racing on the front end even harder than usual to be overhauled on a day where the mercury soared close to 90.
First 2:00 miles ever at Butler to open PA fair season
The 2023 Pennsylvania harness racing fair circuit started on Saturday and Sunday (June 24-25) in this west central Pennsylvania borough’s Big Butler Fairgrounds, and it debuted as auspiciously as possible – both cards got to be raced, and the oval saw the first two 2:00 miles in its history during Sunday’s sophomore action.

There were only 2 MADC events on Saturday night but both provided some exciting finishes, blistering fractions, with neither race favorites once again winning. A dead heat was even had in one of the races.
Nine is fine for Kakaley Saturday night at Yonkers
Matt Kakaley started out hot on Saturday night’s (June 24) 10-race program at MGM Yonkers Raceway and stayed that way the entirety of the proceedings, winning nine times and finishing second in the one event he wasn’t victorious in. With that effort, he joined Luc Ouellette, Walter Case and Stephane Bouchard in the record book at Yonkers for most wins by a driver on a single card.
