With two more MADC races carded on Saturday night, the day of the KentuckyDerby, it was one longshot and one obvious chalk that reigned supreme. On the lead or near the top spot was where you wanted to be.

Le Massif dominated the $7,500 featured pace on Saturday at Vernon Downs.

Alta Engen A was on the engine in Buffalo Raceway’s $12,200 featured pace on Saturday afternoon (May 4) with a gate to wire victory over Davey Day Trader in a seasonal best of 1:54.1.

Trainer Joe Columbo, the runaway leader in the training standings at the current Harrington Raceway meeting, shipped a truckload of sharp horses to Harrah’s Philadelphia on a special Derby Day card of racing and won with four of them.

The 7-year-old Swedish trotter Ônas Prince with trainer/driver Per Nordström was in a class by himself winning the first Group 1 race in Sweden in 2024, the Paralympic Trot with a purse for the winner of $140,000.

Power Mitt paid no attention to the tote board as the 8-1 longshot upset Maine’s top trotters to capture the $6,000 feature at Cumberland on Friday.

It has been nine months since he last raced, but Daniel Redén-trained Francesco Zet with Ôrjan Kihlstrom in the bike was ready when he raced at the Rättvik track in Sweden Friday night.

Ontario sired 3-year-old fillies were the headliners on Friday at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

With very good track conditions for the Friday night card, all three MADC races once again were exciting, but also featured a non-betting favorite winning in the end.
