Twelve of harness racing’s top handicappers will be playing for charity on Saturday night (Oct. 27) in a unique contest on the 12 Breeders Crown championships at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono. The Breeders Crown Handicapping Contest is sponsored by the Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown with total prize money of $1,750 to be awarded to three designated charities.

Massachusetts stakes resume Monday at Plainridge
After a one week respite the Massachusetts Sire Stakes (MASS) return to action at Plainridge Park. Four freshman races totaling $163,434 go to post on Monday afternoon (Oct. 22) while five events for second-year starters totaling $163,000 will be contested on Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 23).
USTA District 12 meeting held at Freehold; 26 rule changes debated
Led by district chairman John Brennan, members of the United States Trotting Association’s District 12 met on the morning of Friday (Oct. 19) at Freehold Raceway to discuss USTA activities and goals and to consider 26 rule change proposals that are to be considered by the USTA’s full board of directors in mid-March. In addition to Mr. Brennan, members in attendance were joined by fellow district directors Jeff Gregory, Jacquie Ingrassia, Peter Koch and Chris McErlean.

Napolitanos continue winnings ways at Pocono
George Napolitano Jr., the track’s all-time leading driver, won the $18,000 claiming pace feature at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono on Sunday (Oct. 21) with Ideal Kiss in 1:52.
Napolitano punches his ticket to first Breeders Crown final
George Napolitano Jr. has won more races than any driver in the history of The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono, but it was a second-place finish at his home oval that proved to be a winner in terms of punching Napolitano’s ticket to his first Breeders Crown final. Napolitano guided Stella Jane to a runner-up finish behind undefeated Woodside Charm in their Breeders Crown elimination last week to advance to Saturday’s $600,000 championship for 2-year-old filly trotters at Pocono.
Four wins, both co-features, to Pierre Luc Roy at 3R
Harness racing driver Pierre Luc Roy, the older brother of Canada’s leading driver, Louis Philippe Roy, had his best day of the season at the Hippodrome 3R Sunday (Oct. 21), not only winning four races, but two of them were the co-featured second leg of the Quebec Plus Series.

No Recess scores convincing RUS MidAtlantic victory at Meadowlands
A field of eight trotters converged on The Meadowlands Saturday (Oct. 20) to compete in the second leg of the RUS MidAtlantic series. When the dust settled, No Recess, ridden by Sietske Dijhkof, scored a convincing 10 length victory, stopping the timer at 1:59 over the fast track.
