Born January 1, 1950 in Brooklyn, NY to Dr. Edwin and Ellen Probber.
Barry grew up on Long Island not far from Roosevelt Raceway. As a youngster he often watched races alongside his Dad at Ocean Downs during summer vacation.
Later in life his passion for racing allowed him to jump in fully and he never looked back. He trained and drove at virtually every East coast track from Lewiston to Pompano.
He maintained a small and successful stable for almost half a century. His way with trotters was one of his strengths. He became a respected go to guy when other trainers were at wits end with a “problem child”.
Count Kahn was one of the stars of his early years. A successful claimer that kept returning to Barry’s barn four or five times when others couldn’t get him to go.
His other talents included being able to patch a quarter crack, and after hours entertaining us at karaoke nights. He was really good at that as many horsemen can attest to. His home repair skills and generosity brought him into many of our homes as well.
He will be missed by so many.
He is survived by his wife Paula, mother Ellen, brother Scott (Carleen) and sister Pamela, grandchildren and a large extended family.
He was preceded in death by his father Dr. Edwin and son Michael.
Barry passed away in Florida on September 24. He was 73.
