Columbus, OH — Bea C Note, a trotting mare owned by the Beaver family of Delaware, Ohio, died recently in Florida at the advanced age of 37.
She was by the little known sire Chip Blaze out of Success Norma, a filly raced by the Beavers in Ohio in the 1960s.
Bea C Note was a top stakes filly in Ohio in the mid-1970s, winning 17 of her 35 starts at ages two and three.
“I remember when she upset Spotlite Hill at the Ohio State Fair in 1977,” says Charlie Beaver. “The actor Don Ameche presented the trophy. He loved Thoroughbreds but had never seen a harness race. We went out to dinner that night with him and he bought a bottle of Dom Perignon. Don Ameche and I later owned some Standardbreds together.”
Bea C Note took her 2:03.2f mark winning at Mohawk as a 5-year-old and retired with earnings of $38,952.
She had seven foals, her final foal at age 24 in 1997. Her best was Lookslikenorma 4,1:57.3f ($219,242).
Lookslikenorma, in turn, is the dam of four $100,000 winners and the granddam of the top older trotter Four Starz Speed 4,1:53.1 ($576,189). Lookslikenorma is now 21 and pensioned in Florida. Her final foal is a 2-year-old.
