Beltrami captures both MADC races Saturday at the Big M

East Rutherford, NJ — The MADC had two races carded on Saturday night (April 20) at The Meadowlands. The only unusual thing for these events this night was that the top betting choices either won or were right in the mix.

Sometimes speed and class make races look easy, especially in these MADC events. That’s exactly what happened as Tony Beltrami picked up a driving double.

He was able to send his first pacer, Way To Close, down the road on a speed mission and after a demanding :54 half, he ended up making it too close as his pacer was shortening strides in the lane but managed to hold on for victory by a diminishing length in 1:52.4. Warrawee Yankee (Mark Silva) closed for second while My Wish Came True (John Calabrese) rounded out the trifecta.

Beltrami owns this winner, an 8-year-old gelding, and Travis Alexander trains.

In the fifth race, Beltrami settled the old classy veteran Mariner Seelster down at the start in mid-pack and made a three-wide bid around the turn and won by 2-1/2 lengths in 1:53.1. Random Hanover (Cote Keim) finished second while Sunshine’s Finest (William Clark Jr.) rounded out the trifecta.

This may close out the racing career in New Jersey for the 15-year-old gelding, who hit his earnings cap after this start and was rolling over the competition, even at this age. It capped off the Beltrami/Alexander driver/trainer double on the night. The winner is owned by Fiddler’s Creek Stables, Alexander Racing Stable, D’Elegance Stable IX, and T L P Stable.

The MADC will be back next week, starting on Friday night. Post time is scheduled for 6:20 p.m.
