Dover, DE — Benjamin Hanover captured the $25,000 Open Handicap Trot at Bally’s Dover on Tuesday night (Jan. 21).
Benjamin Hanover had to overcome not only 19-degree temperatures but six quality trotters en route to his fourth consecutive win.
Chapheart left alertly from the middle of the racetrack and parked 2-5 favorite Benjamin Hanover through a :28 opening quarter. Benjamin Hanover trotted on to an uncontested lead reaching the half in :56.4.
Rivers braved the arctic temperatures and raced first-over down the backstretch. Inaminute Hanover grabbed live cover second-over and Resolve To Win chased third-over on an outside grind while Chapheart followed the action from the pocket.
Benjamin Hanover continued on a confident strut and reached three-quarters in 1:25.4. He then drew off in the stretch to win by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:53.3. Chapheart benefited from the pocket journey to finish second; Rivers raced gamely to finish third.
Benjamin Hanover, a son of Sebastian K S, is owned by Angela Cornell, trained by Scott DiDomenico, and was driven by Tim Tetrick. He paid $2.80 to win.
Tetrick led all drivers with six wins on the 14-race card.
Wednesday’s $25,000 Mares Open Handicap Pace, carded as the eighth race, welcomes Incaseyoudidntknow back to the races. Her competition includes Disturbed Hanover, last week’s winner, along with previous winners Majorca N and
Elektra A.
