Columbus, OH – Trainer Vernon Beachy had a big night Thursday (Aug. 6) at Eldorado Scioto Downs when he swept the $75,000 Ohio Sires Stakes for 2-year-old male trotters, setting a new track record in the midst, and won a third of the $50,000 filly divisions.
Mind On My Moni (driven by Chris Lems) set a new track record, tripping the beam in 1:53.3. Leaving strong off the gate from post 9, Mind On My Moni led through every call of :27.4, :57 and 1:25.1 before winning by a half-length over a fast-closing Cool Julio (Tyler Smith); pocket-sitter Walks The Fire (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) finished third.
Mind On My Moni is now undefeated in five lifetime starts with $104,750 earned. The gelded son by Ready For Moni out of the Angus Hall mare JJ’s Jordyn was a $21,000 Ohio Selected Yearling Sale purchase from breeder Winbak Farm. Mind On My Moni, who went off at 7-1, paid $16 to win. The 1:53.3 winning time bested the previous track record for 2-year-old trotting geldings, which was set in 2025 by Ready Russell (1:54).
Beachy came back three races later to win the other $75,000 division with another Ready For Moni gelding – Debt Free – in 1:54.2. Wrenn piloted this one from post 6 and got away fifth while Satan’s Fury (Brett Miller) took the early lead going to the :28 quarter. Sigurd (Hugh Beatty) was parked and took over for a short time before Motor Earle (Mike Micallef) came first-up as the field headed toward the :56.4 half. Debt Free was outside and sitting fourth by the 1:25.1 third quarter. Posting a :28.3 last quarter, Debt Free got up to win by three-quarters of a length over Iluvmymoni (David Miller); Motor Earle was third.
It was the second win in four lifetime starts for Debt Free who now has $83,750 earned. Out of the Chapter Seven mare Feelsofree, Debt Free was a $23,000 Buckeye Classic Yearling Sale purchase from breeder John Schlabach. Both Mind On My Moni and Debt Free are owned by 518 Group, Gitup Racing, Ryan Smith and Todd’s Auto.
Beachy’s filly winner was Made For More (Wrenn) in 1:54.1. Moni Line (D. Miller) made the early front going to the :27.2 opening quarter, but Made For More was quickly out and on the move from third. Leading through the :57.3 half and 1:25.3 third quarter, Made For More comfortably won under a hand drive by 2-1/2 lengths over Rose Run Cybill (Kurt Sugg); Miz Ella Paige (Sam Widger) was third.
Made For More, by Long Tom out of the Chapter Seven mare Obsessed Blue Chip, is a homebred for owner John Schlabach. The Next Generation winner now has three wins in five lifetime starts and $152,250 earned.
The first $50,000 filly division went to Envious Queen (D. Miller) in 1:54.1. Leading at all points of call – :28.1, :57.2 and 1:25.2 – Envious Queen won by 2-1/2 lengths over Janet’s Big Star (Smith); Blue Ranger (Wrenn) was third. It was the second win in four lifetime starts for the filly by Long Tom out of the RC Royalty mare Royal Envy who now has $63,625 earned. Co-owned by trainer Steve Carter, Hatfield Stables and Cass Gallagher, Envious Queen was a $35,000 Ohio Selected Yearling Sale purchase from breeder Andrew Kauffman.
The last of the five freshman trotter divisions went to Secrets Ilia (B. Miller) in 1:55. Steady Mind (D. Miller) took the early lead but by the :28.1 quarter, Secrets Ilia had made the top. Taking the field to the :57.3 half and 1:26.3 third-quarter, Secrets Ilia opened up to win by 4-1/4 lengths. Take Her Home (Chris Page) was second, with Steady Mind third.
It was the third win in four starts for the Micah Miller trainee who now has $81,250 earned. Owned by Wayne Mast Jr. and Callam Racing, the daughter of Long Tom out of the CJ’s Secret mare CJ’s Super Secret, was a $28,000 Buckeye Classic Yearling Sale purchase from breeder Mose Yoder.
Racing continues at Scioto Downs on Friday (Aug. 7) with a 16-race card starting at 5:25 p.m. (EDT). Two divisions of the Buckeye Stallion Series for 3-year-old filly pacers will go off as races 7 and 11. There are also $27,000 back-to-back opens – the filly & mare open pace with 10 entries and a nine-horse open trot.
The 91-day 2026 Eldorado Scioto Downs regular season runs through Saturday, Sept. 19. Races will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays through Saturdays in August. There will be a special holiday card on Labor Day instead of the Tuesday card that week and no live racing on Friday, Sept. 18, to accommodate horsemen attending the Ohio Selected Yearling Sale. The track will then re-open for the Breeders Crown, with eliminations held Oct. 16-17 and the finals Oct. 23-24.
