East Rutherford, NJ — Blazin Britches and driver David Miller equaled a track record of 1:48.4 in winning the $113,950 Shady Daisy for 3-year-old pacing fillies on Saturday (Aug. 5) at The Meadowlands.
The record is now shared with Dancinwiththestarz and Agent Q.
Caviart Ally and Andrew McCarthy got away first on the lead heading to the :27 first quarter, but were soon overtaken by first Idyllic Beach (Yannick Gingras) and then Blazin Britches, who went three wide around them to grab the lead right at the :54.1 half-mile marker. Blazin Britches led the field to the 1:22 three-quarters, with Idyllic Beach behind the leader along the rail and Caviart Ally behind them in third.
In the homestretch, Caviart Ally made a brief attempt from third to try to make up ground on the leaders, but Blazin Britches paced away from the field for the win by 4-3/4 lengths. Caviart Ally wore down Idyllic Beach in deep stretch to get second.
Brian Brown trains Blazin Britches (Rock N Roll Heaven-Soggy Britches) for owner/breeder Emerald Highlands Farm. The win was her eighth in nine starts this year.
“We thought she was a really nice filly right along,” said Brown. “We had to wait on her a couple times. Got started this year, we were ready to go to the Fan Hanover and she popped a gravel (in her foot). I give credit to her groom Kim Carruthers and the grooms at Bruce’s farm, they got her finally to pop it. That took two weeks and took us right out of the Fan Hanover and the Lynch. We thought she was a good horse, but I can’t tell you I thought she was this good.”
