Saratoga Springs, NY – Brent McLaren, 80, a longtime resident of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., passed away Sunday, Aug. 30, 2026, at Wesley Health Care Center, following a long illness.
Born on Oct. 12, 1945, in Saratoga Springs, he was the son of the late James and Estella (née Jones) McLaren. Brent graduated from Corinth High School. He joined the U.S. Army on Jan. 9, 1967, serving in the Vietnam War until his Honorable Discharge on Nov. 21, 1968, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnam Service Medal, the Overseas Service Bar, expert qualification with the M-14 Rifle and the Army Commendation Medal.
Following his discharge, Brent was employed as a harness horse trainer, driver, and part-owner for many horses at Saratoga Raceway for several years. Following his retirement from driving horses he worked as a Steward/Associate Judge at several tracks, including Saratoga, Harrington Raceway, Dover Downs, and Goshen Historic Track.
He enjoyed skiing, taking care of his horses, and spending time with his son.
Survivors include one son, Christopher McLaren of Saratoga Springs; and many cousins.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until noon, Tuesday (Sept. 8) at the Densmore Funeral Home Inc., 7 Sherman Ave., Corinth, N.Y., with a Celebration of Brent’s life held at noon, also at the funeral home.
A Committal Service with Full Military Honors will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, N.Y.
