Swedish first-season sire Calgary Games has gotten off to a great start – both in his home country, Sweden, and in the U.S.
In the U.S., the colt Zephyr Kemp (1:53.4; $91,800) and the filly Busy Miss Lissy S (1:56.1; $77,340) have brought positive attention to Calgary Games. In Sweden, his daughter Cruiser is undefeated in four starts and has won in 1:56f.
So, it was no major surprise that there was strong demand for Calgary Games offspring at the Kriterium auction Friday night at Solvalla. Nine offspring by Calgary Games were offered and six of them were among the 10 most expensive, with the filly Chione topping the list, sold for 800,000 SEK (about $84,000).
The average price for the nine Calgary Games yearlings sold at the auction was $49,000. The overall average price for the 93 yearlings sold at the auction was $19,954.
The auction’s most expensive horse was the colt Galan Alejandro—sired by Readly Express (the sire of Calgary Games)—who was sold for 1 million SEK ($105,000).
