Call Me Goo has record-setting 2024 debut

Fort Washington, MD — Call Me Goo’s dad, Googoo Gaagaa, was a world champion with wicked speed, and her mom, Callmemza, won multiple Delaware Standardbred Breeders’ Fund finals. Her sister Callmegaga was a one time Maryland Sire Stakes record holder, and her grandfather, Great George Two, while quirky, could fly. So it shouldn’t be much of a surprise that Call Me Goo is a talented horse. On Tuesday night (April 23) at Rosecroft, the 4-year-old started her new year in fine fashion romping to victory in the $25,900 Maryland Sire Stakes for 4- and 5-year-old trotters in 1:54.2.

Jason Skinner trains the winner for Graham Grace Stables, and the mare was bred by longtime local Maryland stalwart Bib Roberts.

The mark set a new MDSS mare trotting record and eclipsed the Rosecroft standard for 4-year-old trotting mares, which had been held by Wind Glider since 2003, by a full second.

Tim Tetrick, who won with her at Harrah’s Hoosier Park in October 2023, was in the bike for the record setting performance.

“I really liked her (at Hoosier) and it’s one of the reasons they asked me to come down, and it worked out that I could,” Tetrick said. “She’s got some really big things on her plate for this year, and hopefully she can compete in some of those big races.”

Upcoming engagements could include the Miss Versatility and the Graduate, among others.

The red-hot Lloyds Loves, made it seven-for-11 in 2024, and four-for-four since being claimed on March 12 by Chris Devine and William MacMillan, as she beat the boys in the $25,600 MDSS event for 4- and 5-year-old pacers.

The time of 1:51.2 set a new MDSS older mares standard for trainer Michael Hall and driver Trae Porter. The daughter of Rusty’s All In was bred by Pamela Wagner.

Grace Rocks was pressed for just over a half mile by a game Mystical View. After shrugging her off after a :54.3 half, Grace Rocks and driver Justin Walters found more.

The 7-year-old daughter of Rockin Image kept going and held off favorite Square Deal,by two lengths in 1:51 for trainer George Lange and owner Howard Taylor.

Walters, John Ahle and Russell Foster had driving triples on the night.

There was not one unique ticket for the Jackpot Hi-5 on Tuesday, so the carryover for Thursday (April 25) night’s 10th race is now $51,513.80.
