(Owyhee) Shotgun Rider has been named the 2024 American Endurance Ride Conference High Mileage Standardbred for the third time with owner and rider Merri Melde. The duo also earned the title for the 2017 and 2021 ride seasons.

2024 season of Standardbred Incentive Program in the books
The third season of the Standardbred Incentive Program (SIP) closed on Nov. 30, 2024, with submissions permitted through Dec. 31, 2024, which allowed extra time for participants to get their placings and trail miles entered.
Baubletina is High Mileage Standardbred

The now 14-year-old Bettor’s Delight gelding earned nearly $300,000 on the track but has found his second stride in the endurance world with new owner Lindsay Toms.
Shotgun Rider repeats as High Mileage Standardbred
Shotgun Rider, a.k.a. Owyhee Shotgun Rider in endurance circles, is the third repeat High Mileage Standardbred since the USTA started recognizing the award in 2011. Merri Melde, Shotgun Rider’s partner and owner, was recognized this past weekend at the American Endurance Ride Conference convention at the Nugget Casino Resort in Sparks, Nevada.
Jailhouse Waylon is 2020 AERC High Mileage Standardbred
The 2020 American Endurance Ride Conference (AERC) High Mileage Standardbred is Jailhouse Waylon. Now called Bubba, Jailhouse Waylon (by Big Rigs) made just one start at an Ohio fair as a 2-year-old but has since blossomed into an endurance partner.

Western Wayne Excels in Endurance
Columbus, OH – Western Wayne was not only a nice racehorse, he is making an excellent endurance partner for adopter Mindy Taylor of Kentucky. The 7-year-old gelding by Western Spirit out of the Pershing Square mare Bayou Baroness earned $100,387 on the track over three racing seasons. His lifetime mark of 1:54.1 was taken as a 4-year-old at The Meadows in 2016. He was then sent to New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program by his owner Dan Kennedy.
Endurance Clinic Aug. 10 in Tennessee
Have you wondered if you would enjoy the sport of endurance riding? The friendly folks of the Southeast Endurance Riders Association are hosting a free clinic on Saturday (Aug. 10) at East Fork Stables in Jamestown Tenn., from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. (EDT). Anyone who wants to learn about endurance either to compete or volunteer at a ride is invited to attend.
Solar Partner is the 2018 High Mileage Standardbred
Three years ago Bruce Weary answered an ad on Craigslist for a horse in Tennessee and bought him sight unseen as an endurance prospect. That horse, that Standardbred, Solar Partner, is now the 2018 High Mileage Standardbred, presented by the USTA in partnership with the American Endurance Ride Conference. Weary will be presented the Award at the AERC Convention, March 8-9, at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nev.
