Team Shaw sweeps sophomore pacing events at Meadville Fair
The second day of the 2016 fair meeting at the Crawford County Fairgrounds in this northwest Pennsylvania city, featuring 3-year-olds in stakes competition, was held Tuesday (Aug. 23) and appropriately started off with a ceremony, featuring the traditional driverless horse and gathering of the meet’s horsemen, to honor Walter “Boots” Dunn, the legendary local horseman and friend to all who had passed away since 2015’s Crawford County racing.
Ruffle Up sets track record at Meadville Fair
The Crawford County Fair in this northwest Pennsylvania town opened a two-day meet Monday (Aug. 22), its first in a long, long time without the firm guiding hand of Walter “Boots” Dunn, the legendary local horseman who passed away earlier this year.
Marvalous Artist hammers out track record at Dayton Fair
Another day on the Pennsylvania fair circuit, another track record. On Thursday (Aug. 18) it was the freshman Delmarvalous pacing gelding Marvalous Artist lowering the divisional mark at the Dayton Fair in Armstrong County to 2:00.2.
Shaws sweep 3-year-old pacing filly events at Dayton Fair
For the second time in seven days, the Yankee Cruiser 3-year-old pacing filly Singalongwithbing made a contribution to 2016’s all-out assault on the track record books at Pennsylvania’s county fairs. She won on Wednesday (Aug. 17) at the Dayton Fair in 1:59.4.
Celina Fair completes successful two-day meet
The Mercer County Fair at Celina, Ohio, completed a successful two-day meet on Sunday (Aug. 14) and Monday (Aug. 15). Post time was delayed by an hour each day due to light rains, but the track remained safe and race-able throughout each program.
Track record broken twice at Washington County Fair
The 2-year-olds produced most of the notable achievements during the two-day Washington County Fair racing program at the Arden Downs racetrack in southwestern Pennsylvania, with one trotting filly setting a divisional track mark, only to see it eclipsed within a quarter hour, and a pacing 2-year-old producing the fastest mile of the meet.
Races at Napoleon, Ohio canceled for Tuesday
The races at the Henry County Fair in Napoleon, Ohio, scheduled for Tuesday (Aug. 16) have been canceled and will not be made up.
Camera Lady is picture-perfect at Hughesville Fair
After two months and two days of being blessed with good weather, the Pennsylvania Fair Circuit finally experienced its first 2016 rainout on Saturday (Aug. 13), when a card for 3-year-olds was washed out by intermittent hard rains at the beginning of a special two-day Sire Stakes meet at the Lycoming County Fairgrounds. But come Sunday (Aug. 14), the rains stayed away, the sun was out and Camera Lady was ready for her close-up.
Midland County Fair racing on August 14 is reinstated
