The 2019 Erie County Fair Sire Stakes races will take place at the historic Hamburg oval on Wednesday (July 10) at 1 p.m.
Oh Toodles and DP Rocket bring the heat at Humboldt
Twenty-five fields of 2- and 3-year-olds competed at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds on Wednesday and Thursday (July 4 and 5). This was the first Iowa-registered meet of 2019 after a rain out at the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds at Oskaloosa in June pushed back the start of the season by two weeks.

Mitch York is enjoying the ride in the sulky
Mitch York began his driving career this summer at age 47, and only wants to drive his own horses. And not just because he’s preferential towards them. “I have no interest in driving anybody else’s horses,” he said. “However, I don’t think anybody else would want me to drive their horses.” It’s the kind of honest answer one would expect from an ex-law enforcement man. York retired in early 2018 after 25 years as a Pennsylvania State Trooper, and since then has been able to focus solely on his relatively new love — harness racing.
