The 2018 race program at the 129th Madison County (Ohio) Fair showed the folks that the 118-year-old track still has what it takes for an exciting day of fast miles and close finishes.

The Pennsylvania fair harness racing circuit checked into this southcentral Pennsylvania town for a weekend of sulky sport on Saturday and Sunday (July 7 and 8) and emerged with all eight of its season’s records for the Pennsylvania Fair Sire Stakes rewritten.
Ohio Ladies Pace highlights London card
When Patricia Sweeney’s 3-year-old filly A Oliveinmymartini won the $4,838 Ohio Fair Racing Conference (OFRC) contest on Saturday (July 7) she was returning to the scene of one of her many triumphs from last year. It was the Mike Sweeney-conditioned daughter of Three Olive’s first start of 2018 and she toured the London oval just as handily as she had in 2017. This time she stepped off a mile of 2:00.2 and put a feather in driver Jeff Nisonger’s cap as they paced a quarter in :30 seconds flat. It was the seventh win in nine Ohio Fair starts.
Hauser captures 1,000th win at Humboldt
The first day of Iowa-regjstered 2-year-old racing in 2018 was held at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds on Saturday (July 7). Adam Hauser went into the 13-race card with 997 lifetime wins looking to tip his total to more than 1,000.
New York Sire Stakes County Fair Series begins 2018 season
The 2018 New York Sire Stakes County Fair Series is underway this week with racing at Goshen Historic Track (July 2) and the Chenango County Fair at Afton (July 5).
Iowa-registered sophomores light-up at Humboldt
Three-year-old trotters and pacers competed under ominous skies on July 4 at Humboldt in the first of 10 Iowa-registered meets in 2018. Sophomore trotters raced for the Glenn and Lorraine Jenson Memorial blanket while pacers vied for the Mark and Ethel Insko Memorial Award.
Long Train Runnin sets all-time track record at Marion (Ohio) Fair
As soon as starter Mike Woebkenberg released the second race Ohio Fair Racing Conference $3,490 division for 3-year-old pacing colts on Tuesday (July 3) a few folks in the grandstand at the Marion County Fair had to be singing The Doobie Brothers’ hit from 1973: Long Train Running, at least down around the corner, half a mile from here.

With temperatures in the mid-80s and a full card of 17 races on Monday (July 2) the excitement at the Marion County (Ohio) Fair was as promised.
Minnie Vinnie returns for Iowa Sires Stakes
Following his impressive second place finish in the Art Rooney at the end of May, Minnie Vinnie returned to Iowa for the first Iowa Sires Stakes meet of 2018. As in the Art Rooney, Minnie Vinnie drew the rail. Though there is no parimutual wagering on fair races in Iowa, his odds would certainly have been higher than the 20-1 long shot he was at Yonkers.
