Monday (April 10) marked opening day at Plainridge Park, and a large crowd was on hand trackside to welcome harness racing back to Massachusetts.

Louis Tomczak Jr.’s Proper One has a good record on opening night at Harrington Raceway, winning for the second straight year on the track’s opening night (Monday, April 10). His 1:55.1 triumph kicked off the southern Delaware raceway’s 77th season of harness racing in the first of 14 races on the program.

The Monday (April 10) card at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania featured five divisions each of two ongoing series: the first preliminary of the Bobby Weiss Series for 3-year-old pacing fillies, and the second preliminary round of the Game Of Claims Pacing Series for horses who raced with a base tag of $12,500.

Two of the leading contenders for the Elitlopp at Solvalla, Italy’s Vivid Wise As and Sweden’s Ônas Prince, were both victorious on Easter Monday.

Normally the Weiss Series for sophomore trotting males would be the Sunday evening feature during April at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania, but that series was rerouted to Saturday night this week to honor the wishes of horsemen who did not want to race on Easter.

Jet’s Sureshot (Jereme’s Jet-Cadie’s Sure Shot) came up big with driver Kim Pluta to win the Saturday night (April 8) $10,800 featured Open Handicap Pace at Northville Downs.

Joesstar Of Mia A ($5.70) made his seasonal debut an impressive one as he collected the victory in Buffalo Raceway’s $15,500 Open Pace on Saturday evening (April 8) in 1:54.1 over the fast track. He turned back Secrecy by 1-1/2 lengths with Stop Action rolling into third.

Hillexotic and Nicholas Beach may have used different tactics, but both came up winners in the co-featured events at The Meadowlands Saturday night (April 8).

Sometimes patience and perseverance pays off. Coastal (Downbytheseaside) proved that in Saturday night’s (April 8) $19,000 Filly and Mare Open Pace at MGM Northfield Park as she bided her time en route to victory.

Yogi Sheridan fulfilled an odds-on promise and Joe Lee pulled a 15-1 upset in their respective $9,000 divisions of the American Harness Drivers Club Trot at Freehold Raceway on Saturday afternoon (April 8).
