Lyons Legend holds off Blue Pacific in Bluegrass
Driver Tim Tetrick worked steady early fractions for Lyons Legend to force her main competitor, 1-5 favorite Blue Pacific, to claw forward in a final-quarter sprint, and the tactics paid off to give the 5-2 second choice a 1:52.1 victory in the third of three divisions for the $290,100 Bluegrass 2-Year-Old Filly Pace on Thursday (Sept. 28) at The Red Mile.
‘Magnifico’ magnificent for Keim
Life could not have been much better for Cote Keim last week, on and off the track. On Friday, the trainer saw his 2-year-old pacers Magnifico Hanover and Costa Diva finish first and second, respectively, in divisions of the Reynolds Memorial at Tioga Downs. A day later, his wife, Jamie, gave birth to the couple’s fourth child, a girl named Josie Frances Keim. He hopes to make this another memorable week, as well. On Friday, Keim will send out Magnifico Hanover in the second of four divisions of the Bluegrass Stakes for 2-year-old male pacers at Lexington’s Red Mile.
Confederate leads gangbusters Bluegrass card Saturday
The Red Mile will host North America’s best sophomores in competition on Saturday (Sept. 30) in Bluegrass action, including the sport’s current No. 1 horse Confederate when he starts in race six, the first division of the Bluegrass for 3-year-old pacing colts and geldings.
Racehorse Health and Safety Act introduced; Coalition introduces bill to bring safety to the industry after HISA’s failure
Tuesday (Sept. 26), horseracing industry groups representing over tens of thousands of horsemen joined Congressman Clay Higgins (LA-03) to introduce the Racehorse Health and Safety Act (RHSA) to bring safety to the industry. The bill is endorsed by the National Horsemen’s Benevolent & Protective Association (HBPA), the United States Trotting Association (USTA), the North American Association of Racetrack Veterinarians (NAARV), and others. The RHSA would establish an interstate compact to develop nationwide rules governing scientific medication control and racetrack safety for horseracing, replacing the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act (HISA), which is failing to bring safety to the industry.
Alrajah One IT set for Dayton visit
After setting a Canadian record with his 1:50.2 win in the Maple Leaf Trot on Sept. 2, Alrajah One IT will make his next start Saturday when he meets eight rivals in the $250,000 Dayton Trotting Derby for older male trotters at Hollywood Dayton Raceway.
