Participants who supported Virginia’s new Certified Residency Program from its beginning four years ago will be rewarded this weekend with four $25,000 Certified races — two Paces and two Trots — open to 2019, 2020 and 2021 foals that completed their minimum six-month in-state residency.

Ohio Sires Stakes action to begin Saturday
The final day of racing at Miami Valley Raceway will mark the opening of the 2023 Ohio Sires Stakes action. Two divisions each of the 3-year-old filly trot, filly pace, colt trot, and colt pace will highlight the action as the curtain falls on the Miami Valley meet Saturday (May 6). Each division will carry a purse of $55,000.

Espresso gets nod as Dexter favorite
Julie Miller is hoping to enjoy a strong Espresso on Saturday (May 6) at Freehold Raceway. Espresso, a two-time Grand Circuit winner and Kentucky Commonwealth Series champion last year, is the 2-1 morning-line favorite in Saturday’s $137,775 Dexter Cup for 3-year-old male trotters at Freehold’s half-mile oval. The Hambletonian-eligible gelding, who is making his seasonal debut, will start from post two with Andy Miller in the sulky.
Records tumble in Paul Revere Pace at Plainridge
Nancy Takter trainee Caviart Scotland etched his name in the Plainridge Park record books with a 1:50.3 win in the second division of Thursday’s (May 4) $100,000 Paul Revere Pace, breaking the stakes record as well as the track standard for 3-year-old pacing colts.
