The time was 1:52.4 over a track which had just been rerated to “sloppy.”

The 9-year-old Italian trotter Vernissage Grif (sired by the French champion sire Love You) may never have been better. Though he had to trot outside leading Capital Mail with Gabriele Gelormini, he was strongest down the stretch and won the Gran Premio Lotteria by a length in 1:52f followed by Bleff Diba with Roberto Vecchione and Capital Mail.

Five divisions of 3-year-old filly trotters opened the first leg of the Buckeye Stallion Series Sunday (April 30) at Miami Valley Raceway. Each division carried a purse of $20,000.

Carolina Beach (Somebeachsomewhere) has been knocking on the door for several weeks since moving up to the Open ranks. On Sunday (April 30), he put it all together to score an upset victory in the $19,000 co-feature.

After missing as the favorite in the top class last week, No Lou Zing rebounded with a stern rally along the rim to grab victory in the $24,000 Open Pace at Oak Grove Racing, Gaming and Hotel on Sunday afternoon (April 30).
