Woodbine Mohawk Park is set to host its annual Boxing Day matinee card Tuesday (Dec. 26), featuring a mandatory payout on the Jackpot Hi-5.

When racing resumes on Tuesday (Dec. 26), there is a lot for bettors to be excited for, with several features including a pair of $18,000 Open events, four Progressive Claiming Series finals, and a pair of $25,000 estimated pools at MGM Northfield Park.

For years, smaller players had a tough time of it at the track when it came to going for the big score, as larger minimums tended to exclude the low-level bettors from being serious players in those extremely attractive giant pools, permitting bigger partnerships and syndicates to bet big and scoop the pots.

Freehold Raceway will be increasing the Lasix fee to $20 as of Jan. 1, 2024. The increase is consistent with Lasix fees in PA, NY, VA, MD and at the Meadowlands.

With the books now finalized after the last live card of racing took place on Saturday (Dec. 9), Batavia Downs saw a major growth in handle that started last January during their first winter meet in 20 years, and ended the year showing a 75% increase in wagering over the track’s previous record high.

Due to deteriorating track conditions, MGM Northfield Park was forced to cancel live racing on Monday (Dec. 18) after the eighth race. Live racing is set to resume on Tuesday (Dec. 19) at 6:00m p.m.

Horsemen please be advised that MGM Northfield Park will operate with modified draw schedules the next couple of weeks to coordinate with the holidays.

Northville Downs, which opened in 1944, will be celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2024. The Metro Detroit raceway will host a 10-day harness racing meet from Jan. 5 to Feb. 3, with racing to be conducted every Friday and Saturday beginning at 7 p.m.
