A sale with just foreign yearlings in France, whose stud book is closed for other than trotters registered in France. Yes, the inaugural Select European Yearling Sale was held Tuesday in Deauville in Normandy with a book of 95 yearlings from Sweden, Italy, Germany, Denmark, Belgium, and The Netherlands.
And not only the yearlings were foreigners — the buyers too.
The top price — 400.000 Euro — was paid for a colt sired by Chapter Seven and out of the Italian mare Beautiful Colibri, she by Ready Cash. After a lengthy battle Norwegian businessperson Kjell Magne Andersen got the final bid and the colt named Stargazer will now be shipped to the United States to be trained by Lucas Wallin.
Fifty yearlings were sold for an average of 44,880 Euro and five were sold for 100,000 Euro or more.
