Charles Lane, 71, dies

Columbus, OH — Charles L. Lane, 71, of Frankfort, Ohio, passed away, Aug. 7, 2023, at his campsite at the Ross County Fair, in Chillicothe, Ohio.

He was born on May 6, 1952, in Chillicothe, the son of the late Leslie P. “Tag” and Jane Wright Lane.

Mr. Lane was a 1971 graduate of Adena High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam War. Mr. Lane had been a longtime Standardbred caretaker with the Ater Stables as well as a farmer. He was a member of the United States Trotting Association, the Ohio Harness Horseman’s Association, and the Ohio Farm Bureau.

He was active in several veteran’s organizations including American Legion Post 62, AmVets Post 4 the VFW Post 108 and the 40&8 in Chillicothe.

He is survived by his children, TC (Shannan) Lane and Jenny (Josh) Szatkowski; grandchildren: Lauren, Drew and Luke Lane, and Olive Szatkowski; and sisters, Malinda (Larry) Tedrow and Sarah (Mike) Frary.

A graveside service will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort, Ohio, on Aug. 14 at 11 a.m. Craig Reichert will officiate the service. Military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Army and the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard. Following the service, he will be laid to rest beside his mom and dad. No calling hours will be held.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the charity of one’s choice or by contributing to a local scholarship.
