Grove City, OH – Chip Shot and Rose Run Brooke won the two $75,000 divisions of the fifth leg of the Ohio Sires Stakes for sophomore filly trotters on Wednesday (Aug. 26) at Northfield Park Racino.
The victories were the second OSS wins of the season for both horses.
Chip Shot (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) recorded the faster mile of the two races, taking the second division in a lifetime-best 1:54.2.
In that race, Sarah’s Mission (Chris Page) led at the first three calls in :27.4, :57, and 1:25.4 before being edged by Chip Shot by a neck at the line. Readi Two (Hugh Beatty) finished third. Chip Shot is a Mission Accepted filly trained by Vernon Beachy for owners John Schlabach and Walnut View Farm. She has hit the board in all five seasonal starts with three wins. In 14 career starts, she has seven victories and $112,538 in earnings.
Wrenn Jr. and Beachy also teamed to win the first division with Rose Run Brooke. It was a gate-to-wire victory for the In Range filly, who recorded fractions of :28.2, :57.3, and 1:26.4 en route to winning by half a length over Fairytale Moni (Chris Lems) in 1:55.2. Charlotte Elise (Tyler Smith) was third. Rose Run Brooke is owned by First Up Racing Stable. She has six wins in 19 career starts while banking $314,579.
Celebrating its 50th season, the Ohio Sires Stakes continues Thursday (Aug. 27) with the fifth leg for freshman colt trotters at Eldorado Scioto Downs. The OSS Scarlet Championships for all eight divisions are scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12, at Scioto Downs.
