Coalford Bythesea in Open Pace at Northville Saturday

Northville, MI — The $9,500 Open Pace highlighted the Saturday night program at Northville Downs with Coalford Bythesea (Downbytheseaside – Stormy Novel) and driver Justin Irvine winning by open lengths in 1:55.1.

Coalfordbythesea and Justin Irvine left for the early lead, crossing right over off of the car and tripping the beam to the opening quarter in :28.1. The team went on to fight off all challengers to a half in :56.2, three-quarters in 1:25.2 and they opened up down the lane to win in 1:55.1 over a hard-charging Catch Me Conrad (Lindsay Moen) who was second, and Skyway Rockatop (David Lake), the lone mare, hanging on for the show dough.

Coalford Bythesea is owned and trained by Gerald Malady and the win was Coalford Bythesea’s 11th of his career.

Drivers Justin Irvine, Art McIlmurray and Charles Taylor all had driving doubles. Trainer Gerald Malady had a training double on the night as well.

Northville Downs resumes racing on Friday (Oct 27) with a first post time of 7 p.m. Friday is dollar night at The Ville with $1 pop, live programs and popcorn, $2 hot dogs and beer and hamburger and cheeseburger specials.
