Vernon, NY — Cowgirl Hanover (Doug MacNair) captured the $108,200 New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) for freshmen pacing fillies at Vernon Downs on Friday (August 23).
Cowgirl Hanover ($2.80) led to the first quarter in :26.2. Fansville (Matt Kakaley) then took the lead going around the first turn. Cowgirl Hanover reclaimed the lead and was first to the half in :55.2. As they went around the final turn The Last Martini (Jason Bartlett) came first-up to challenge for the lead. Cowgirl Hanover led to three-quarters in 1:25.
As they reached the stretch Cowgirl Hanover dug in as second place finisher The Last Martini kept coming. Cowgirl Hanover dug down deep and won in a lifetime best of 1:52.1. Shes A Streaker (Jordan Stratton) finished third.
Cowgirl Hanover is a filly by Huntsville-Code One Hanover. She is own by NY Seb Inc. and trained by Jared Bako. It was her sixth win in seven lifetime starts.
Leading driver Leon Bailey had three wins on the card giving him 99 wins on the season.
