Credit List, Just Plain Loco take Buffalo Opens

Hamburg, NY — Credit List made a step up in class to Buffalo Raceway’s $17,500 Open Trot on Saturday night (March 25), and he proved equal to the tougher task with a neck victory over Castyourcrown in 2:00 over a sloppy track. In the co-featured $17,500 Open Pace, Just Plain Loco ($5.90) was just plain good as he used a backside brush to conquer the field of six in 1:57.1.

Credit List ($2.60) settled into third in the early going in the Trot, but driver Jim Morrill Jr. wasn’t content from there. They quickly took away the lead from early leader Castyourcrown (David McNeight III) and posted splits of :30.2, 1:00.4 and 1:30.3.

Things started to get interesting for Credit List heading past the final marker as the first-over Lougazi made a threatening move toward the lead. But the rally quickly ended as he broke stride, allowing Credit List off the hook. Castyourcrown tried in vain to make up ground in the stretch but finished a neck back, settling for second place. Captain Krupnik (Keith Kash Jr.) rolled in for third.

Credit List stepped up successfully and captured Saturday’s Open Trot at Buffalo Raceway.

It was the second straight win and third in eight starts in 2023 for the 8-year-old Credit List (Credit Winner-Ashlee’s Dream), whom Kevin Reynolds Jr. trains for the Room 4040 LLC Stable. The score moved his seasonal earnings to $29,032 and $309,357 in his career.

Just Plain Loco (David McNeight III) watched a front-end speed duel between Out On Bail and Star Messenger before making his winning move up the backstretch the final time. He gobbled up ground hitting the three-quarter pole and never looked back.

With things well under control for Just Plain Loco, the main contest was for second place, and that went to Stop Action (Shawn McDonough) over Villiam (Joseph Chindano Jr.).

Co-owned by Paul Lang and Mark Toth, Just Plain Loco (Well Said-Symphony In Motion) scored his first win of the season in just his second such start. The 7-year-old has now produced $9,958 for earnings on the campaign and $415,403 in his career.

SBD Corazon (Denny Bucceri) made it two straight victories by wiring the field in the $15,100 conditioned pace. He topped Alta Engen A (Morrill Jr.) by a diminishing three-quarters of a length while All About Lynx (Christian Myers) was third.

Starting out of post six, SBD Corazon set fractions of :30.1, 1:00.4 and 1:30. Turning for home, there were never any serious threats until late, when Alta Engen A made a furious bid but ran out of real estate.

Owned by William Emmons and trained by James Clouser Jr., the 6-year-old gelded SBD Corazon (Cheyenne Rei-Gold Winner) scored his third win in eight seasonal attempts. The victory upped his seasonal earnings to $25,115 and $122,522 in his career.

There were a pair of $13,100 conditioned paces on the program. The heavily backed Prairie Panther ($2.10) used a first-over trip and rolled past American Trademark by 1-3/4 lengths in the first bracket, while RD Skippy ($15.80) scooted up the passing lane in mid-stretch and beat It’spronounced Jif in 2:00.1.

It was ‘girl power’ in the $13,100 trot as the lone mare in the field, CR Blazin Beauty ($10.80), buried the boys by 6-1/4 lengths in 2:01.3. It was the third straight win for the 9-year-old mare, who was a winner of 10 races and $105,384 in 2022. John Cummings Jr. steered her to the gate to wire win.

Morrill finished the evening with a four bagger while Bucceri and McNeight had doubles. Trainer Mihajlo Zdjelar Jr. conditioned a pair of winners.
