Cyclone Sister continues success in $22,000 Filly and Mare Open at MGM Northfield Park

Northfield, OH — It’s not often you can get value on the same horse two weeks in a row, but if you missed the train last week on Cyclone Sister, you got another chance on Saturday (Sept. 2) night, as she scored her second straight victory in the $22,000 Filly and Mare Open at MGM Northfield Park.

Cyclone Sister won easily by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:53.1. Casalinova photo.

As the gate left the field, Better Days Ahead (Luke Ebersole), Trick Of The Light (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.), and Fairiesdelight A (Aaron Merriman) dueled for the lead as they barreled into the opening turn. Entering the backstretch, the trio was still three-wide, but Trick Of The Light managed to work her way past Better Days Ahead into the backstretch.

Trick Of The Light and Fairiesdelight A continued their battle to the opening quarter in :27.4, with Fairiesdelight A securing the lead into the far turn for the first time. Merriman, who earned his 15,000th career win at The Meadows earlier in the day, backed down the pace to the half in :57.2, with Cyclone Sister (Ryan Stahl) beginning her first over bid.

With three-eighths to go, Cyclone Sister got within a length of Fairiesdelight A, and as the field approached three-quarters in 1:25.1, she wore down the leader, taking over the top spot into the far turn. Once Cyclone Sister made the lead, there was no catching her as she drew off to win easily by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:53.1. Adashious Hanover (Billy Davis Jr.) rallied to be second, while A Delightful Act N (Hunter Myers) finished third.

Owned by Paul O’Neil and trained by Jessica Roegner, the daughter of Shadow Play has now earned $281,560.

Live racing resumes on Sunday (Sept. 3) evening at 6 p.m. MGM Northfield Park currently races on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday. For more information on live racing and promotions, visit www.northfieldpark.com.
