Dead heat in distaff feature at Vernon

Vernon, NY — Unusual Clarity (Ron Harp) and Won Surreal Deal (Barton Dalious) finished in a dead heat in the $7,500 featured pace for fillies and mares on Friday (Sept. 15) at Vernon Downs.

Won Surreal Deal ($2.10) controlled splits of :26.2, :55 and 1:23.1, and she continued to lead as they reached the stretch. So Amazing (Steeven Genois) popped the pocket and Unusual Clarity ($3.70) came flying three-wide. Won Surreal Deal dug in as Unusual Clarity kept coming and they landed in a dead heat in 1:52.2. So Amazing finished third.

Unusual Clarity is an 8-year-old mare by Betterthancheddar owned by Nicholas Gibides and trained by Harp. It was her seventh win this season. She now has 32 career victories.

Won Surreal Deal is a 5-year-old mare by So Surreal owned by Parsimonious Racing Stable and trained by Jeff Sorenson. It was her fourth win this season. She now has 13 career victories.

John MacDonald leads all drivers with 77 wins. Barton Dalious is in second with 70 tallies. Steeven Genois (41), Frank Affrunti (40) and Jimmy Whittemore (39) round out the top five.

Michelle Warner leads all trainers with 39 wins. Jeff Sorenson is second with 28 trips to the winner’s circle. David Dewhurst (24), Claude Huckabone III (24) and Gary Gibson (22) round out the top five.

Live racing returns to Vernon Downs on Saturday (Sept. 16) with a 10-race card starting at 6:05 p.m.
