Hamburg, NY — Dealin With Dewey arrived razor sharp from Ontario, but the question was if that form would carry over into Buffalo Raceway’s $14,500 Open Trot on Friday afternoon (April 18).
It sure did.
With two victories and a second place finish as a heavy chalk in Canada, Dealin With Dewey ($8.00) came across the border and it was worth his while with a 1-1/4 length win over Big Baller Beane in 1:58.1 over the ‘good’ track.

Big Baller Beane (Kevin Cummings) showed the way in the early stages of the contest with splits of :29.2 and :59.1. But Dealin With Dewey (Brett MacDonald), who was sitting fourth through the half, came first over and nudged by Big Baller Beane with a panel to trot.
It was a battle down the stretch between the two but Dealin With Dewey eventually wore down Big Baller Beane and stepped off to the win. Beacon Beach (Jim Morrill Jr.) finished third.
Owned and trained by Sara Baillargeon, it was the third trip to the winner’s circle on the campaign for the 7-year-old Dealin With Dewey (Wheeling N Dealin-Rockin With Dewey). The score jacked his seasonal earnings to $18,886 and $266,868 lifetime.
In the $12,500 trot, Valentine Express (Drew Monti) took the ‘express’ and easily subdued Fly Delta (Morrill) by 2-3/4 lengths in 1:58.
After a mild skirmish to the top with Fly Delta and Crazy Fool (Kyle Cummings), Valentine Express ($3.80) finally cleared to the lead and settled through fractions of :29, :58.4 and 1:28.
With the quarter-mile to trot, Valentine Express opened up a comfortable two length advantage and toyed with the field the rest of the way to the finish line. Fly Delta won the four horse battle for second with Crazy Fool holding on for third place honors.
Owned by Rock 01 Stable and trained by Jerry Nugent Jr., it was the second victory in four attempts this year for the 6-year-old Valentine Express (Chapter Seven-Cantata). The win increased his 2025 bankroll to $13,400 and $265,577 in his career.
Morrill completed the card with three victories with Monti getting two.
Racing will continue on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. with 11 races ready to go to the post.
