Delaware Valley USHWA nominations sought for Caretaker of the Year

Harrington, DE — The Delaware Valley Chapter of the United States Harness Writers Association is currently accepting nominations for its fourth annual Caretaker of the Year award.

The award is designed to recognize a caretaker/groom who works primarily in Delaware, Maryland, or Virginia, for a trainer in good standing. He/she must have a current groom’s license in one of those states and cannot currently be training horses. The caretaker should also be on a trainer’s employee roster.

To nominate a caretaker/groom for this award, trainers are required to submit a nomination letter (200 word minimum) explaining why a caretaker/groom from your stable deserves the award. Suggested areas of emphasis include punctuality, reliability and initiative. Nominators are asked to include the groom’s name, address and phone number, along with your name and phone number.

Caretakers/grooms are often the unsung heroes of the sport and this award memorializes their dedication. The deadline for nominations is Dec. 1. All nominations should be submitted via email to devalleyushwa@gmail.com.

The winner will receive a $250 award courtesy of the Delaware Valley Chapter of USHWA at the annual Delaware Standardbred Owners Association banquet.
