Denise Mondi, 75, dies

Columbus, OH — Denise Rose Mondi, 75, died Jan. 11, 2023, in St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with her loving family at her side.

She was born Oct. 11, 1947, a daughter of the late Donald B. and Victoria J (Rosemarino) Stevens. She graduated from Holy Rosary Catholic High School in Syracuse and then attended Marywood University, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, in Scranton, Pa.

She spent time working as a receptionist at Mohawk Airlines, was a secretary for Agway Co., as well as an executive secretary at General Electric in Syracuse.

In 1970, she married Tony Mondi and the couple has shared a loving relationship of 52 years together. Being her husband’s profession was harness racing, she took an interest in horseback riding, learning both English and Dressage and spent many wonderful years enjoying her passion of riding her favorite horse Handsome.

Mrs. Mondi was a faith filled communicant of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church and cherished attending mass celebrated by their Pastor Rev. Edmund Castronovo.

She was a loving mother and grandmother who cherished any time with her family and friends. In her spare time she enjoyed outings with her two best friends, Jackie VanDreason and dear sister-in-law, Anita Stevens.

Surviving are her husband, Tony; daughters, Noelle and Carla; son, Tony (Jean); grandchildren, Alexandria Rose, Joseph, Paulie and Ryan; sister, Donna Spagnoli, sisters-in-law, Anita Stevens, Lillian Bossone and Juliette Morelle; aunt, Virginia Warne; brother-in-law, Dr. Frank A.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald B. and Victoria J. Stevens; brother, Donald Stevens; sister-in-law, Clorinda; brothers-in-law, Charles Spagnoli and Carmen Bossone; and father in-law and mother-in-law, Dominic and Celesta.

Mrs. Mondi was a wonderful person who will be missed by all who knew her.

Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday (Jan. 15) from 4-7 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 23 Front St., Vernon, N.Y. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Rev. Edmund Castronovo on Monday (Jan. 16) at noon at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 5652 E. Main St., Verona, N.Y. Burial will follow in Verona Cemetery, Verona, N.Y.
