Dennis Youshock, 72, dies

Columbus, OH — Dennis S. Youshock, 72, of Slippery Rock, Pa., died Tuesday morning (Jan. 10), at Allegheny General Hospital, in Pittsburgh.

Mr. Youshock was born April 11, 1950, in Grove City, Pa., to Steve and Mary (née Halahurich) Youshock. He graduated Slippery Rock High School in 1968 and married Joyce Shaner in June 1971.

Mr. Youshock was a member of the Meadows Standardbred Owners Association since 1983 and was also a member of the USTA. He owned 17 Standardbreds during his life, and raced them primarily at The Meadows and on the Pennsylvania fair circuit. As a trainer, he won twice in his career — once each in 2020 and 2021.

Before that, he was employed by Peoples Natural Gas for 34-1/2 years, retiring as a supervisor in January 2006. He previously worked for Armco Steel, in Butler, Pa.

He was a member of North Liberty Presbyterian Church, Free and Accepted Masons Lodge #603 in Grove City (Pa.), and New Castle Consistory.

Mr. Youshock is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughters, Michelle Barger (Ken Gottschalk), Brenda Fedokovitz (Terry), and Stephanie Gramc (Matt); and grandchildren, Taylor (Jacob) Young, Alexis Barger, Steven Fedokovitz and Dylan Fedokovitz.
