Vernon, NY – Dewey Arnold (Leon BaileyD) captures the featured $8,500 Open Trot at Vernon Downs on Friday (May 22).

Dewey Arnold ($18.92) charged right out the gate from the eight hole and went straight to the front and led to the quarter in :26.4. He used a :29.0 quarter to glide to the half in :55.4. He remained in front at three quarters in 1:24.2.
As they reached the stretch, second place finisher Doc Nixon (Jimmy Whittemore) popped out of the pocket and went all out after the leader. Dewey Arnold dug in and won in 1:53.3. Forty G’s (Roman Lopez) finished third.
Dewey Arnold is an 8-year-old gelding by Deweycheatumnhowe. He is owned by Phillip Hale and trainer David Dewhurst. It was his second win this season. He now has 44 career victories.
Frank Affrunti had a driving hat trick. Leon Bailey had a driving double. Luke Carswell had a training double.
