Vernon, NY — Dewey Arnold (Leon Bailey) took the $8,500 Open Trot at Vernon Downs on Saturday (May 30).
Dewey Arnold ($2.88) went straight to the front and led to the quarter in :26.4. He used a :29.4 second quarter to be first to the half in :56.3. He cruised to three-quarters in 1:25.2.
Second place finisher Forty G’s (Roman Lopez) came flying late, but Dewey Arnold was too strong and won easily in 1:54.1. Duke Lavictoire (Steeven Genois) finished third.
Dewey Arnold is an 8-year-old gelding by Deweycheatumnhowe owned by Phillip Hale and trainer David Dewhurst. It was his third win this season. He now has 45 career victories.
Leon Bailey and Jimmy Whittemore each had driving hat tricks.
