Nichols, NY — Discus Hanover (Ron Harp) charged late to capture the $8,500 featured Open Trot at Vernon Downs on Friday (September 27).
Zapaca (Steeven Genois) was first to the quarter in :26.3. He used a :29.1 second quarter to be first to the half in :55.4. Zapaca was still in control and led to three-quarters in 1:25.1.
As they reached the stretch third place finisher Valottalove (John MacDonald) popped the pocket and went all out after the leader. Discus Hanover ($6.60) made his move three-wide. He drifted very wide but still got by second place finisher Zapaca to win in 1:55.
Discus Hanover is a 7-year-old gelding by Credit Winner. He is owned by Phillip Hale and trained David Dewhurst. It was his sixth win this season and his 47th career victory.
Claude Huckabone III had a driving double and a training double. Dustin Miller had a training double.
