Harrington, DE — The Wiz Kids Stable’s Disturbed Hanover ($45.60, Barton Dalious) sprang an upset in the $22,500 Mares Open Pace on Tuesday (Sept. 22) over a sloppy track at Harrington Raceway.
Favorite Square Deal made the early lead at the quarter mile in :27.4 and led the field through fractions of :57 and 1:27.1 while Lou’s Lucky Girl waited in the pocket and Lofty Treasure and Disturbed Hanover headed up the outer flow. Disturbed Hanover fanned wide in the stretch with the most pace and held off a hard-charging Lou’s Lucky Girl for the win. Lofty Treasure was third.
A 10-year-old daughter of Big Jim, Disturbed Hanover notched her second straight win and 46th of her career for trainer Bart Dalious. She is approaching $700,000 in career earnings and took her lifetime mark of 1:51 as an 8-year-old at Bally’s Dover.
The Sept. 28-30 week of racing at Harrington will be headlined by the first leg of Delaware Standardbred Breeders’ Fund (DSBF) action for 2-year-olds, featuring $20,000 divisions nightly. The top eight point earners from each division will return to compete in the $110,000 finals Oct. 12-14.
Live racing at Harrington will continue on a Monday-through-Wednesday schedule through Oct. 21.
