Dover, DE — Disturbed Hanover braved a first-over journey and scored a 30-1 upset in the $25,000 Mares Open Handicap Pace at Bally’s Dover on Wednesday night (Dec. 18).
Majorca N and 3-5 favorite Elektra A were quickest off the gate, with Majorca N seizing control of the lead and Electra A surrendering to the pocket through a :26.1 quarter.
Majorca N raced comfortably on the lead and reached the half in :55.1 before Incaseyoudidntknow moved to the outside and and flushed cover from Disturbed Hanover, who rushed uncovered up the backstretch. Majorca N braced for the strong challenge from Disturbed Hanover as the pair squared off at the three-quarters in 1:22.4 while Elektra A protected pocket position. Disturbed Hanover wore down both Majorca N and Elektra A in deep stretch and won by a neck in a lifetime best 1:51.1. Elektra A finished second; Majorca N was third.
Disturbed Hanover, a daughter of Big Jim, is owned by the Wiz Kids Stable LLC, trained by W. Bart Dalious, and was driven by Barton Dalious drove. She paid $63.80 to win.
Driver Tim Tetrick won four races on the night.
Thursday’s (Dec. 19) 10th race features the $110,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders’ Fund final for 3-year-old male pacers, and the 12th race boasts the best pacers on the grounds in the Blue Hen Handicap Pace. Thursday will be the final live card at Bally’s Dover before the traditional Christmas holiday break, which extends from Dec. 20-29. Live racing returns on Dec. 30; nightly post time is 4:30 p.m. (EST).
