Elims drawn for Metro Pace and Shes A Great Lady

CAMPBELLVILLE, September 6, 2005 – Three eliminations, scheduled for Saturday, September 10 at Mohawk, have been drawn for both the C$1 million Metro Pace and the C$688,200 Shes A Great Lady.

To accompany the elims for the two-year-old pacers, two divisions of the Simcoe Stakes for three-year-old open pacers have been carded (Races 9 [10:07 p.m.] and 11 [10:49]). In the first division, Rocknroll Hanover will make his first return to the Woodbine Entertainment circuit since capturing the $1.5 million Pepsi North America Cup in mid-June.

Also, a C$50,000 10-horse open trot has been drawn (Race 1, 7:20), which will see seven of the 12 horses entered to the $918,500 Maple Leaf Trot (September 17) prepping over the Campbellville oval.

The C$40,000 Metro Pace elims for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings have been carded as races six (9:04), seven (9:25) and eight (9:46).

The top three finishers from each elim, plus one fourth-place finisher drawn by lot, will advance to the Metro final.

Elim winners will also be able to select their post positions for the final.

The first of the Metro elims, housing a nine-horse field, will be highlighted by Took Hanover (PP1, Ron Pierce), who put in an exceptional mile in a division of the Champlain Stakes on September 3 at Mohawk.

Took Hanover, who is owned by New York’s Adam Victor And Son Stable and Toronto’s John Fielding, left well from post 10 in the Champlain, got spotted and dug in strongly in the homestretch. The son of The Panderosa drew away late, posting a 2½-length victory in 1:53.3 for trainer Chris Ryder and driver Pierce.

The second Metro elim, another nine-horse field, will see Palone Ranger (PP6, David Miller) look to thrive off his success in the Champlain.

Arthur Pronti (Franklin Lakes, New Jersey) and Patricia Bolte’s (Moorsetown, New Jersey) Palone Ranger took command before the half-marker marker in his Champlain division and raced home, posting a 2½-length score in 1:51.3 for trainer Ryder and driver Miller.

Another Champlain winner, Heat It Up (PP9, Chris Christoforou), has drawn into the third of the elims, which will hold a 10-horse field.

Heat It Up, owned by Old Westbury, New York’s Perfect World Enterprises, capitalized on hot fractions in his Champlain split, closing hard from the back of the pack to erase a nine-length deficit en route to a four-length win clocked in 1:53.1. Scott Forbes conditions the Jate Lobell gelding whom Christoforou also piloted in the Champlain.

The C$35,000 Shes A Great Lady elims are scheduled for earlier in the evening and will be contested as races two (7:40), three (8:01) and four (8:22).

Just like the Metro elims, the top three finishers from each elim, plus one fourth-place finisher drawn by lot, will advance to the Metro final and elim winners will also be able to select their post positions for the final.

Little Miss K (PP6, Brian Sears), who won a division of the Champlain last weekend, has drawn into the first of the Shes A Great Lady elims, an eight-horse event.

Owned by New Jersey’s MJG Stables Inc and Hill View Enterprises, Little Miss K is a student of conditioner Erv Miller. Eric Ledford has driven the daughter of Artsplace in her last two stakes wins but Sears has been listed for Saturday.

Keystone Dawn (PP6, Steve Condren) will be searching for her fourth-straight win in the second elim, a nine-horse event.

Owner George Hempt of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania bred Keystone Dawn, a bay Western Hanover filly who has won the C$47,800 Whenuwishuponastar, a C$151,650 division of the Eternal Camnation and a C$98,960 split of the Champlain in her last three starts. Conditioner John Kopas trains Keystone Dawn and Condren has been piloting her.

John Kopas has another top student in the third of the Shes A Great Lady Elims, as Style (PP3, Tony Kerwood) has drawn into the nine-horse field.

Owned by George Hempt along with Campbellville, Ontario’s Glengate Farms, Style, a daughter of Rustler Hanover, has won five of her seven starts this year, including an O.S.S. Gold Final and divisions of both the Robert Stewart and Eternal Camnation Stakes with Kerwood in the bike.
